Update: Kindle

As a result of my ebook host being taken down I have now made the decision to post all of my ebooks for sale on Kindle. This is because everyone will still be able to access my ebooks even if they do not own a Kindle as you can download the Kindle software to you pc or laptop as well as downloading it to many other hardware such as smartphones.

I will ensure that I price the ebooks as low as I can to ensure that they will still be available to as many people as possible!

Review: Catfish (Film)

They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.” – Taken from (youtube.com/watch?v=BuE98oeL-e0)

The film Catfish is a ‘documentary’ based upon the life of a photographer Yaniv Schulman (known as Nev) who is based in New York. There is some controversy as to whether the film is real or staged, but which it is, is it a great film! I was completely captured for the full 86 minutes following every twist and turn in the story.

There is a great use of incorporating different media such as Google maps, Facebook Messages, texts, and phone calls – by including these the creators have made the film feel a lot more personal as well as making the audience feel as though they are apart of the film. The film also raises many of the discussion points about Facebook and our online ‘social lives’, such as do you really know who is behind the profile picture?

I would definitely recommend this film because you wouldn’t expect the film to turn out how it does after watching the trailer, also there are definitely some lessons to learn from the film too!

Coming in the future...

This blog is going to be quiet over the next week and may not be updated as regularly as I normally do over the next few months because I am working on a new ebook!

It will hopefully be first fiction novel! As this is the first time I'm doing this it will be a long drawn out task but I am going to take it head on. I don't want to reveal too much about it but I hope that you'll be aptient until I release it. I have two options for release either make it available for free and place an ad on it or make the first few chapters available for free and the whole book available on kindle... I'm not sure which route to take yet but I do want to make sure it's available to everyone!

So many things are happening in the world around us
Addicts searching around to find a fix to get a buzz
Millionaires trying to find something to spend on
Politicians’ see the problems but scrub their minds to get gone
What about the single mother stranded on the street
Who thought about the homeless man on the street with nothing to eat

You chose to forget, just like me
Because you just didn’t want to see
What the world is turning to be
All too wrapped up in our own lives
To worry about those struggling to survive

Reviews: Jessie J - Domino (Music)

I have previously said that I would like to start posting some reviews, so here is the first of many!

Jessie J - Domino (Music)


Jessie J, real name Jessica Ellen Cornish was born on 27th March 1988 and is an English singer/ songwriter, writing songs for artists such as Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus (Party In The USA). Jessie's Debut single Do It Like A Dude peaked at number 2 in the UK charts her follow up Price Tag reached number 1 in the UK charts! Her dubut album peaked at number 2 in the UK album charts. Alongside Jessie J's many achievements she recieved a Brit Award for the Critics Choice in February 2011. Her musical sound could be defined as a mix of R&B, Pop and Hip Hop powered by her soulful voice.

With the catchy hooks and toe tapping guitar riff its no wonder that Jessie J got a number one on 15th January 2012 (UK) with her latest track, Domino, produced by Max martin and Dr Luke. Of course this track was co written by Jessie herself, show casing her lyrical talents alongside another lyrical master Claude Kelly. This song is a great song for getting ready for a night due to the feel good and fresh feeling it will have anyone wanting to dance when they are listening to it. Although at times it could be said to be too similar to Katy Perry's track Last Friday Night, this can be forgiven by most listeners due to the catchy backing track and fun overall song.

This has definitely got to be Jessie's best single to date due to the fresh feeling of the lyrics and the video can't be missed either with the wide range or outfits and colours! What more can Jessie J bring to the music industry, with her amazing songwriting and vocal abilities she has set the standards high for the future.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5

2 Youtube Videos

I will be posting more at the moment I’m working through the poems from my ‘Words From A Teenage Mind’ ebook which you can download from my downloads page.

I’m also currently working on a lot of fresh material and trying to come up with some new poems, I also hope to get a working on a short story and start developing my story writing skills – but time will only tell if I’m any good at it!

Ready, Set, Go

I now have the beginnings of my studio, somewhere I can actually sit down and write!

I got The Writers’ and Artist’s Yearbook 2012 today so hopefully that will give me a few tips on where I can send and put my poetry to get more people to see it!

So many things to get sorted still but it’s definitely heading in the right direction – hopefully I can get a few videos up soon, I want to release some mp3 recordings of me reading my poetry too so I definitely have a lot to come!

Poem: A Father’s Promise

Standard

Babies crying all around
Off to sleep they go
No one daring to make a sound
Nappies, clothes and toys
Gifts for all the new girls and boys
Helium balloons and teddy bears
Presents from a proud father to show he cares
About his child so small
Whispering in its ear
‘If only your grandparents where here
They’d shed a tear
But they’re looking down on you now
And trust me, I know they are so so proud
Not only today but of who you will be
Whether you’re like your mother or me
None of us can wait to see
You have my nose and eyes
And your mothers beautiful smile
But we have the greatest gift that we could ever receive
And I promise you, I’ll never leave.’

Good News

My new phone has arrived today and I can record HD videos on it! So now I’m thinking of going out and shooting some footage so that I can create some videos to go with my poetry for my youtube channel! I’ve got some ideas of the poems I want to do this for but I need to see if my ideas will work when put into practice.

Update

I haven’t been able to post any poems for the past few days as typing really hurts.

Yesterday morning my knee gave way whilst I was crossing a fairly busy road which meant I ended up falling over and landing really heavily on my right hand (luckily I’m left handed!) – Now it’s all bruised and sprained which has meant I have to keep it strapped up, which isn’t very fun! As soon as it’s a little bit better I will be able to get all the poems I’ve been writing up here.

Also tomorrow I should be taking delivery of my new phone which  should in theory mean I am able to update this blog even when I’m not in front of my laptop!

Plans

Over the next coming weeks I hope to get more videos up on my YouTube channel, as I think this is another way I can reach more people, if you have a poem you’d like me to record then let me know in the comments or by e-mail or on twitter.

I hope to make the investment of a new microphone at some point in the near future as I’d really like to record my work properly and possibly try out rapping again!

I’m going to add another section to this site featuring all the comments and feedback I receive on my work from the other forums and websites I’m a part of.

I posted my poem ‘I’m Just Sleeping’ onto the Blogger Coffee Shop forum and this is one of the comments it received:

‘Wow I think that’s a beautiful piece. I get the feeling that’s its written by a girl in an abusive relationship that went too far and abused her fatally yet even though he killed her, she still loves him and thinks he cares.’ – John Malo

This poem was infect intended to be about knife crime although I do love it when people interpret my work in different ways!

Poem: I’m Just Sleeping

Plunging deep into my skin
I’m fighting a battle that I want to but can’t win
My eyes flicker and give you hope
Just as my body is shutting down, it can’t cope
The machines are beeping
You keep telling yourself that I’m just sleeping
My killer is running free
But on their conscience it’s me
In their mind I’m all that they can see

Just kiss my good night just one more time
Let’s forget this night and terrible crime
Let me give up this fight
I promise to light up the night
Be the brightest star in the sky
Just let me go, let me sleep, let me die

I promise to talk to you everyday
Even if my words you cannot hear
I promise one day we’ll be together again
I just don’t know when

Poetry: Be Proud Of Who You Are

I want to reach out and help you
But I feel useless like there is nothing I can do
I can see the pain in your eyes
I can see through your lies –
Saying that you’ll be alright
This isn’t a battle you have to fight
You don’t have to do this alone
I’ll be there for you, just ask, pick up the phone
Whatever your problem, big or small
I’ll help you to pick yourself up and walk tall

I know that you can do
Anything you put your mind to
And so does everyone else too
Have a little self belief and be proud of who you are
It doesn’t matter that you’re not rich and that you don’t drive a fancy car
You’re you, the one who means so much too so many

Book: Words From A Teenage Mind Vol 1. Now Available

You can now get a physical copy of ‘Words From A Teenage Mind' Vol. 1’ from just £3.95 +p&p.

I have self published this book but one day I hope to have a publisher and be able to get my books onto shop shelves but for now I will continue to try and keep producing books and ebooks for all of my readers.

This book doesn’t include as many poems as the ebook version I have already released but it includes a small number of my personal favourites which I have written and those which other people have commented they like.

Poem: Hood Up, Head Down

Hood up, head down
Plodding across the ground
Face mysterious
The public become curious
Hood up, head down
The misunderstood frown
Walking around
The soul never found
Hood up, head down
Strolling through the town
Ahead another rowdy crowd
All with heads bowed
Hood up, head down
Plodding across the ground
Heading home again
Tonight I have found enemy and friend

Once again...

This is the first poem I wrote which I was proud of when I was 13.

Blog Relaunch

After some consideration I have decided it’s time I put in some extra work into this blog so I have decided to give it a bit of a make over and a relaunch!
